The Australian Financial Review Young Rich List, which celebrates its 21st birthday this week, is in large part a story of Australia’s technology fortunes.

The list of the 100 wealthiest Australians under 40 was born in 2003 after the first dot com boom revealed a world of up-and-coming companies and business ideas that went beyond the establishment money of the Rich List. This wave of entrepreneurship was turbocharged by the rise of social media and smartphones and led to the creation of a new generation of business innovators very different from their elders.
