Women the winners from new tax cuts
The average female taxpayer will receive a greater tax cut of $1649 under the new stage three regime, according to Treasury modelling, but economists say more can be done to address the effective 70 per cent marginal rate new mothers face when they return to work.
Treasury modelling released on Thursday found that as women comprise the majority of individuals earning less than $75,000, and only 30 per cent of those earning more than $128,000, their average tax cut will climb from $1278 to $1649, a lift of $371 compared with the previous regime.
