A rise in well-off, left-leaning voters could turn the Gold Coast into the next teal battleground, as Simon Holmes a Court’s progressive political movement backs marathon runner Erchana Murray-Bartlett to enter parliament.

Ms Murray-Bartlett is standing as an independent in the Coalition-held seat of McPherson, which ranges from Burleigh Heads to Coolangatta.
