Anthony Albanese’s government has cleared the decks for an election in the new year by passing the bulk of its remaining legislative agenda, 31 bills, in a single day.

This means the government has the option of going to the polls soon after the summer break. While an election must be held by May 17, many are betting on April 12 as the set date.
