West must not flinch in helping Ukraine now
There is something else at stake as Ukraine fights on: the self-worth of the democratic world that has backed them and must not see them fall.
In a hail of ballistic missiles, Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine could be approaching an end game after more than 1000 days of fighting.
Both sides are nearing exhaustion. Russia has suffered an estimated 700,000 dead and wounded in a war started by Vladimir Putin to create a pliant puppet neighbour in Ukraine, an objective in which he has so far failed.
