US imposes sanctions on Cuban officials after protest crackdown

Washington | The Biden administration has imposed sanctions against Cuba’s Defence Minister and a special forces unit of the Interior Ministry it said was directly involved in human rights abuses during a government crackdown on widespread protests this month.
The measures were “just the beginning” of efforts to sanction “individuals responsible for the oppression of the Cuban people”, President Joe Biden said in a statement on Thursday (Friday AEST).
