US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer have upped the ante in Ukraine by allowing Kyiv to strike inside Russia with British-made Storm Shadow and American-supplied long-range ATACMS missiles.

The move is clearly designed to place maximum pressure on Vladimir Putin before Donald Trump becomes president again. And it sends more than a literal shot across the bows due to the presence of North Korean forces on the frontlines – itself an escalatory move by Moscow and Pyongyang.
