Syrian rebels seize Aleppo city in lightning raid

Aleppo | Rebel forces have swept into Syria’s second city Aleppo and were advancing south after mounting a lightning offensive that poses the biggest threat in years to Bashar Assad’s regime.
The Syrian army said dozens of its soldiers had been killed in the major attack by the rebels, while Russia’s Defence Ministry said its air force had carried out strikes on the rebels to support Syria’s armed forces, Russian news agencies reported.
