Retailers are chalking up Black Friday as a success before the final sales have been rung up, easing anxiety about end-of-year trading after households appeared unwilling to spend their tax cuts and sharemarket profits amid a cost-of-living pinch.

The Cyber Weekend promotions may have swayed shoppers into action, retailers said on Monday, traditionally the last day of the promotional long weekend.
