London | France faces weeks of political instability after lawmakers brought down the government on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT), leaving the European Union’s second-largest economic power with no clear path to a new budget and threatening to further jolt financial markets.

Left-wing parties and the populist right National Rally joined forces in a parliamentary no-confidence vote to topple the three-month-old government of Prime Minister Michel Barnier, capping months of tumult.
