Investment bankers are a resilient bunch, and they’ve needed every bit of that fortitude to navigate the soft deal environment that’s followed the pandemic boom.

With a month to go in the year, Australian M&A has seen 242 deals worth about $139 billion, just below the 10-year median of about $160 billion in M&A, and well below the record of $372 billion set in 2021.
