Prominent Jewish leaders and Israel’s president are demanding that Anthony Albanese do more to stop perpetrators of hate, after intensifying antisemitism, especially in Victoria, crossed a threshold into dangerous violence with an arson attack on a Melbourne synagogue.

Jewish frustration over government failure to rein in antisemitism has reached breaking point, just days after diplomatic relations between Canberra and Jerusalem reached a nadir when Australia abandoned Israel on a key United Nations vote.
