The machinations that led to the latest changes for the supposed purpose of the Future Fund treat the Australian taxpayer with utter disdain (“Labor steers Future Fund investments”, November 21).

The original purpose of the fund – as stated by the Howard government but strangely omitted in the legislation – was to create a financial mechanism to meet the liabilities of unfunded defined-benefit schemes of politicians, bureaucrats (including judges), and defence personnel.
