Satellites orbiting close to Earth will be tested to see if they can handle mobile phone calls in bad weather as trials on potential replacements for Australia’s ageing copper wire networks get under way.

Scyne Advisory, the former public sector consulting arm of PwC, has been appointed to run trials of voice calls using low earth orbit (LEO) satellites.
