Construction boss jailed over ‘rape and pillage’ fraud

A crooked construction boss has been jailed over a massive fraud after a marathon trial that left a judge questioning why tax officials allowed the rip-off to continue for more than a year.

The $10 million fraud’s main beneficiary, George Alex, will spend more than six years behind bars for what was described as the “monetary form of rape and pillage” involving labour hire firms in the construction industry.
