Capital flight from climate risk fuels ‘ghost town’ fears

Banks and insurers are set to lead a flight of private capital away from investments in essential infrastructure in the regions and industries most exposed to climate change in the absence of a national plan that unlocks private funding for adaptation.
That’s the view of a powerful group of institutional investors including AustralianSuper and Perpetual, which fears the result will be “climate ghost towns”, damaged infrastructure and abandoned industries.
