Earlier this year, Airbnb CEO and founder Brian Chesky riffed on a concept called “founder mode” (it was coined by Y Combinator founder Paul Graham) which was a rallying cry for the tech and VC complex.

It’s a grab bag of things but boils down to driven founders being the best people to run their companies because they’re so across the detail of its operations. And it’s directly at odds with the professional-manager class, who are often parachuted into executive roles before companies go public.
